Remarriage Success - This Little Principle Is Guaranteed to Create a Happy Marriage
While we love our spouses, they can infuriate us more than just about anyone else, can’t they? Why is that? Part of it is because they know us better than anyone else. They know exactly what will push our buttons. If you’ve gone through a divorce, you’re probably intimately aware of this marital phenomenon. But now that you’ve taken the risk of remarrying, how can you avoid letting those little annoyances ruin this marriage? The key is choosing what you focus on. You can let your partner's annoying habits drive you crazy or you can choose to focus on all of the other stuff you love about them. This can be a hard perspective change for people. We get stuck in being negative and don't even realize it. It almost becomes a habit. Unfortunately, what happens is that we start defining our partner in negative terms and only look for those things that substantiate that view. We miss all of the great things they do as a result. For example, my husband is a world class procrastinator. This drives me crazy. I can choose to get upset whenever he does this and see that as his main personality characteristic. Or, I can choose to focus on the fact that he’s a great father, treats me like a queen and is very actively involved in our family. I don’t know about you, but I’m much happier not focusing on the few occasions where procrastination causes irritation and instead focusing on all of his great characteristics. Whether you’re stuck in the rut of focusing on the negative or not, make the decision to identify 3 great things about your spouse every day. Not only will it force you to see things positively, but it will reinforce how brilliant you were when you chose to marry your spouse!
