Dating After Divorce - This Little Gift to Yourself Can Make Dating After Divorce a Success
A divorce causes one of the craziest and transitional times in one's life. Just about everything you can think of changes. Now that doesn't mean every change is bad, some are for the better. But change causes stress. Another change that can throw an added layer of stress is the decision to begin dating after a divorce. Again, not necessarily a bad thing if handled at the right time. But how do you know if it's the right time? Well, one big indicator is: Life has calmed down The dust has settled on all those crazy changes not only for you but for your children as well. It's not even realistic to think that you can successfully add a new relationship in the mix when you're in the midst of all adjustments that happen after a divorce. At that point, you're trying to go day by day with the many decisions you must make as well as answering the questions and fears of your children. Here's a beginning list of the big changes that really should be taken care of before considering dating: * All the divorce settlements are complete.
* You know where you're living and are settled there.
* Financially you know where you stand and have a plan.
* Your children are used to their new schedule and are at least maintaining their grades and good behavior. Once these minimum adjustments have been made, the addition of a relationship can be considered. Yes, a new relationship has the potential to add to and bless your life. But it also requires an investment of time and energy; things in short supply shortly after a divorce. Give yourself and your kids the gift of time to let life settle down a little before you go changing it again.
